Kaw Nation Early Child Development Center
The Kaw Nation community in Newkirk, Oklahoma, wanted a new child development center to meet their growing population needs. Tribal leaders selected Blue River Architects to design a 5,150 square-foot, single-story child development facility to accommodate 52 children. The structure includes four classrooms, a commercial-grade kitchen adjacent to a dining and multipurpose area and a 4,100 square-foot playground. In addition to education-specific design details, there is a covered exterior entrance that leads to a secure reception area with controlled access. As an added safety measure, designers reinforced one of the classrooms to be a storm shelter.
